From Semicolons to Storytelling

TeQ Day.

You’ve got your project to show off.

Exciting, right?

You explain it to folks... again... and again…

1st try: You’re on fire.

2nd try: Still smokin'!

. . .

(Me, scratching my head )

. . .

17th try: You no longer want to live…

Huh! Not really.

Here’s the lightbulb moment:

People care about one thing.

The story.

But not just any story.

A story with two key plot points (PP):

PP1: The Problem (Your Why)

What's the big bad wolf you're facing? Why should they care?

PP2: The Solution (Your How)

How did you swoop in like a caffeinated superhero and save the day? Tell them, but maybe skip the part about crying over semicolons.

Your mission when talking tech?

Take them from the problem to the solution. Make them feel something (not boredom) and ensure they’re having a good time along the way.

The extra fluff?

The more filler I added, the quicker they left.

So, next time, cut the fluff.

Stick to the story.

Keep them on the edge or at least awake!
